About the project

THE BRITISH BROWN HISTORY PROJECT

There has been a constant migration of South Asians into Britain for a very long period. Whether they came for education or simply to better their lives, they all felt themselves to be British. They just desired to enter Britain, the cradle of the British Empire. After all, they had 200 years of collective input to its creation. Whether via the famines caused by the British people or their steadfast support as recruits in the British military services during World Wars I and II.

This history, recounts their ambitions in making Britain their home and more significantly how they battled and fought against prejudice and discriminatory legislation imposed by later governments.

This history is extremely essential for everyone, but especially for the new generation of South Asians born in the United Kingdom who take the relative harmony of British society for granted. Or moreso believe there is a lack of realisation that the key to a good future is to comprehend the past and draw lessons from it.

At British Brown History, I would want to share this history with like-minded individuals, students, academics, and educators, based on my PhD study on the experience of British Asians living in the United Kingdom from 1950 to 2001 while enduring racism.
